For beginners, the best way to begin is with instruction, and the most enjoyable way to do that is on a guided 4x4 trail. There are plenty available, with difficulties ranging from pretty easy to only experts need apply. The 4x4 trails in the Laingsburg guarantee you of an exhilarating experience that you will never forget. All the trails have varying degrees of inclines, deep dongas and loose rock. You will traverse magnificent passes boasting exquisite views. Bird and wild life are abundant in this beautiful area. You will also find an abundance of succulent plants and the quiver tree that is endemic to this area.

Special Plants:

The area south of Laingsburg is a very interesting one in terms of Haworthia distribution. Only a few km south of the town one can find three different species on a single hill. Haworthia pehlemaniae, H. arachnoidea var. scabrispina and H. lockwoodii grow here within a few hundred metres from each other. The mountain slopes flanking the Rooinek Pass south of here is known to hide the rare H. wittebergensis and close to it one finds a H. arachnoidea-related plant with very dark almost black leaves covered with white teeth and which has flowers that appear the same time and also look the same as those of H. marumiana var. dimorpha.
